Steve Angello, An21 & Max Vangelli, Size Matters @ Congress Theater 11/26
Steve Angello and the Size Matters crew took over The Congress Theater this past Saturday where Steve Angello threw down one of the more legendary high-energy and floor-shaking sets that ancient building has seen. The best part about going to see Steve spin is that you can expect one of the most diverse, sexy, hard-hitting sounds in the game and you can be assured that he’s going to deliver that every time. Steve Angello and the house music coming out of Sweden over the last 2 years is the epitome of progressive house; hell they might as well hold down the roots for the genre today. Check out the above videos to get a taste of Saturday’s festivities.
Skrillex @ The Mid 11/11/11

One of the best shows I’ve seen in a while, not just because its a Skrillex show either. There were also special appearances: Steve Duda, Dada Life, Dillon Francis, and Nadastorm! It was surprise after surprise, banger after banger! Dillion Francis actually spun for his first time on CDJs and he shredded! So in spirit of what might’ve been the best show The Mid has seen, here are some new Skrillex tracks that’ll have you keep wobblin out

Wow I couldn’t have been more impressed by R3hab at the beginning of the night as he laid down banger after banger of his hottest remixes out. It actually was pretty similar to listening to his ADE Mix which I had posted earlier. It was pretty awesome hearing his Party Rocker Anthem Vs The Bottle Song mash-up. His lights were awesome and I was never more stoked to see him again later that night.
Next up was Paul Oakenfold, his set left me in awe. The “Starry Eyed Surprise” DJ blew me away. I’m not going to lie, I rarely ever listened to any of his stuff before this show, but from now on that’s going to change. HE KILLED IT! Check out the videos I took if you don’t believe me.
Last up was Paul Van Dyke, who tore it up with his hard-hitting beats. If your familiar with PVD than you already know that he sounds nothing like any of the other Dutch House DJ’s out there. He’s straight old school: Hard, Fast Beats. As being the veteran of the dutch trio that played that night it’s safe to say that his sound is more consistent with another top dutch DJ, Tiesto, but old Tiesto. Not his new electro stuff. Overall I would give the show two thumbs up.
As a side note, when I caught R3hab’s after show at Sound Bar, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. He played an almost identical set to the one I saw just a few hours earlier, right down to the PRA Vs The Bottle Song mash. There were no surprises, its as if he took the same A and B disc from earlier and popped them in to the CDJ’s. So if you intend on seeing him twice in one night, Don’t! You will just be left disappointed that you paid cover to see the same set all over again. Hopefully he can redeem himself the next time he comes to town.
Deadmau5 10/24 Aragon Ballroom Chicago, IL
If you live on the planet earth or saw the VMA’s last year then you know who Joel Zimmerman is, aka Deadmau5. He is probably one of the best PRODUCERS of our time. He hates being called a DJ because he isn’t one. He’s a creator who would much rather be in the studio making those amazing beats we crave than being out on tour. At the same time he understands that going on tour is a part of the job so he does it for us, the fans. If it wasn’t for us he wouldn’t be where he is today, ON TOP (#6 DJ Mag 2011). I’ve seen a lot of him in the last 365 days: Soldier Field, twice at the Congress last year, Ultra 2011 Miami, missed Lolla due to the rain, and most recently this past Sunday. Now let me say this, Joel’s new set is amazing! Hands down, the consensus is that he tore it up! This past Sunday we got a real treat and from him, he played not only his new stuff, but he dropped his “Tiny Dancer” Remix as well as some Kaskade. As an added bonus SOFI came out and rocked our socks with “Sofi Needs a Ladder”. This was by far the best show I’ve seen him play …Better lights, Better set, a Better Mau5. If you have seen him before, forget about it, go out and see him on the Meowington’s Hax Tour and get blown away!
